Palia

Price: Free

By: Holly

So palia is an open world cosy MMO game where you level up different skills, like hunting, foraging and fishing, while allowing you to romance villagers, gain friendships and build your own home with furniture you can buy or build yourself.

The game is currently in it's closed beta phase and we've been lucky enough to gain access before it moves into the open beta in the coming days, meaning there will be many changes to the game in the future, where this review will not cover. This is simply a review of the closed beta in the state it is currently before the opening of the open beta.

mY FAVOURITE pARTS

The best parts of the game for me is the fact that its an mmo, and you can invite your friends to your party and have them join your world.

The best parts of the game for me is the fact that its an mmo, and you can invite your friends to your party and have them join your world.

I also thoroughly love the farming and furniture making mechanics in this game. The way that palia has done the farming requires you to think a little more than if you just had a field of one crop, as each crop has a different benefit that it gives to nearby ones, making you have to think about your placements in a way to benefit the most from what you're growing.

a great thing about palia, is how it feels like the villagers are truly alive. They all have their own schedules and walk around the different areas of the map as well as going to their respective homes at night to sleep, and their jobs during the day. This makes the game feel so much more alive and less empty, in the same way that because palia is an open world MMO and you'll almost always stumble across other players.

The player base on this game so far throughout the closed beta is extremely friendly. The server chats are almost always filled with positive people who are helping one another, making it a great environment to play in.

Negatives

Although I do enjoy this game, there are a few things I do have issues with that get annoying in the long run.

For furniture or tool crafting, there is no way to craft multiple sets of something. You have to manually go back into the crafting bench and find the thing you want to craft again. When you need to mass make things such as fences or arrows which can only be made in small quantities at once, it gets very tedious.

There is also a few very irritating issues when it comes to playing with others. As the game is an mmo, its inevitable that you will run into other people while you are out and about in the world of palia. What this means however, if you're trying to do some hunting, other players can scare of the animals, or kill them themselves and you will get nothing from the animal if you yourself didn't get a shot off on them. This makes it hard to hunt with others in a group.

My final review

Overall, palia is a game i'd definitely recommend to people to pick up to at the very least try out, especially considering its a free game. The only micro transactions within the game are for cosmetic outfits, making it a game where anyone can play no matter how much they'd be willing to spend on it.

I've definitely found myself spending a lot of time on the game so far with having beta access for a little less than a week. It's an incredible game to spend as much or as little time as you have avalible, and it doesnt require a huge time investment unless you're dedicated into building exstensions onto your house, which is quite expensive and takes a lot of time.

In summary, if you have some time where you just want to relax, palia is a great game to pick up!

pLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE CLOSED BETA OF PALIA, THERE MAY BE CHANGES TO THE GAME AFTER THE OPENING OF THE OPEN BETA WITHIN THE COMING DAYS.
